Congratulations Steve!

This year's recipient of the Appalachian Trail Conservancy's New England Region "Volunteer of the Year" award was none other than Steve Smith with the Berkshire Chapter of the Appalachian Mountain Club. The award was presented to him by Cosmo Catalano, fellow AMC-Berkshire club member and chair of the New England RPC (Regional Planning Committee). Under Steve's excellent leadership as Monitor Coordinator, Cosmo reported an amazing 90% completion rate for recent boundary maintenance work along the A.T. corridor boundaries throughout Massachusetts. In addition to keeping up with both the boundary maintenance and corridor monitoring aspects of A.T. Corridor Stewardship, Steve also does a stellar job in the realms of encroachment mitigation and educating trail neighbors about what it means to live next door to their closest National Park, the Appalachian National Scenic Trail.
